William Ruben White was born in Alabama in June of 1860 to Woodson G. White and his wife Sarah F. Hawes White. I have found information that he may have had an older sister, Sarah Elizabeth and a younger brother, Jefferson Davis. There may have been more, but information is scarce for the family during this time period. William Ruben White married Josephine Elizabeth Driver in 1880 and they began their family in Mississippi, where their first 5 children were born. They moved their family to the Ellis county area of Texas where the final 4 children were born including Columbus Armor White, my great grandfather. They moved on to Dickens, Texas where William Ruben White died in April of 1935 at the age of 74. His wife Josephine followed him 5 years later in September of 1940. She was 77. |
Columbus Armor White was born on Christmas day in 1893 to William Ruben White and Josephine Elizabeth Driver White. "Clumie" was born into a large family, being the 6th of 9 children. He married Bertha Mae Ivison in December of 1911 in Roby, Texas. He fathered 4 children with Bertha. They were Willie Lagrand, Delma Odell, Edith Jewell & Orvie Lee. They were a happy family until her death in 1925. His 2nd wife was Ruth Redding White. He fathered 1 child with her, William M. White. I have no information on Ruth or how their marriage ended. My mother told me that he was married to a lady by the name of Pearl who wanted to be an actress. I'm told that Pearl was extremely jealous of Edith and would not even let her sit on her daddy's lap. I don't know the circumstances on how this marriage ended but there were no children. Finally, in the mid to late 1930's, Grandpa White met and married Emma Putman and their son, Howard Odell White was born in 1939. He remained married to Emma until his death in 1960. |
